Varna is the third largest city in the country and a major center in one of the best developed economic regions. It is located in NE Bulgaria on the Black Sea Coast. The capital city Sofia is 470 km away from Varna. Other important centers in the region are: Shumen (80 km), Dobrich (50 km) and Russe (200 km). The mild climate enables the port to be used throughout the year. For its powerful sea tourist business and numerous summer tourist resorts in vicinity, Varna is named the Sea Capital City of Bulgaria.

Port of Varna EAD has two terminals: Varna East Port Terminal, which is situated deep into the Bay of Varna, at only 1 km distance from the city center and Varna West Port Terminal - the most modern port facility at the northern Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. It is located at 30 km west of Varna city, on the west shore of Beloslav Lake.
